I'd say back them up onto a CD or USB drive. Though I would also take it a step further and use encryption software as well, like StompSoft's Portable Vault or comparable. That way if someone get a hold of the CD or USB drive they will be unable to see what is on it.

Get a free virtual disk in Internet, there are many. You can backup your important data there. But, don´t use this alone, make at least another copy to a flash drive, a CD, a DVD, etc.

I personally would use an online storage service like X-Drive or Mediamax. They offer 5 Gbs and 25 Gbs of free storage, respectively. You can upload your files to them and they will store them on their servers, where they cannot be harmed. They also have guarantees, obviously, that no one else will have access to your private files. I have not had any problems with X-Drive, which is this one which I use.

You can also burn them onto CD or DVD if you have a CD or DVD burner, and then keep that in a cool place in a case.

Best thing to do is go to any store (Target, Staples, Best Buy etc) and pick up a USB Memory Key. There a alot of brands and they range in price from $10-$80 depending on how much storage space you need. Even a 256 MB Memory key is enough to store hundreds of word docs and you can pick one of these up for $10-$15. They are much easier than burning cd roms and are very portable.

You need a full clone of your operating system disk. Then for the other files you really want to do an incremental backup, one which only writes changed or new files. There are many backup programs that will do this, including scheduled. Acronis is one.

The best way is to backup ur needed data on some removable disk (it can CD/DVD or flash drive, depend's on size of data u want to backup).
The only problem left is software u'll doing that.
i'd recommend True Image by Acronis(http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).
it can backup directly to DVD without any 3_rd party soft (such as Nero). besides it's cheap and quite easy-in-use.
lately, i've met review where ATI and another backup software are compared. here is link

Get a biometric flash drive. It lets you store your documents while only letting you access them with your fingerprint. Fairly cheap to buy and very easy to use.

Here's a link to show you what i mean:
