the pitcher, pitched 7 innings. in those 7 innings, he or she struck out 4 batters (3 strikes a person), and only 6 batters of all the batters in the 7 innings got a hit (or hit the ball and got on base).

It means that a pitcher pitched 7 of 9 innings in a game, pitched 4 strike outs, and the other team only got 6 hits off the pitcher.

The pitcher pitched 7 innings, struck out 4 batters, and gave up 6 hits which is good since he gave up less hits than innings pitched
