When one is called a jack a** it refers to the fact that they are ignorant, but more than ignorant. They are ignorant jerks. Like they didn't just mess up because they didn't know any better. They messed up because they didn't care enough about the feelings of others to think about what might be correct.
Tell your friend to be nicer and more thoughtful or ignore stupid guys who call people names.
