Who told you that you are too old? When my son took Karate lessons there was a 96 year old woman taking lessons from the same sensei and she had just earned her yellow belt.

it doesnt matter how old you are..unless you're physically uncapable of moving quickly.. then it might be more difficult. 34 is not even that old.. there were people in my tae kwon do class who were over 40! I say you try out a karate class.. for at least a few days and see whether you want to continue with it or not.. most likely you will.. and its a great form of exercise (and can come in handy!)
Good Luck!

never too old!!
Our school is the best on Long Island....our kioshi is 8 degrees black, teaches his own classes and is the highest ranking teacher in New York state in his system. Japanese Karate and JuJitsu Systems, Bay Shore, New York. A member just joined.....he's 58.

Nope, never too old, but don't expect the speedy progress that the kids will have.

Also, research the school you want. I've found that any dojo that has trophies littered about has little to do with the spirirtualism that connects with the art. It depends on what you are looking for.

You are never too old to join karate. I have been in it for 15 years, and I love it! It is great exercise! One of my instructors is over 60 years old, so if he can do it, you can! Good for you for wanting to try something new!
