(x+y)^2 = x^2 + 2xy + y^2
and
(x-y)^2 = x^2 + y^2

so, you get (x^2 + 2xy + y^2) - (x^2 + y^2)
= x^2 + 2xy + y^2 - x^2 - y^2
= x^2 - x^2 + 2xy + y^2 - y^2
=2xy

The other guy isn't right.

It is (X2 + Y2) - (X2 - Y2). Which goes to...
X2 + Y2 - X2 + Y2. This goes to....

2Y^2

Looking below, I need to go back to math. And to think I got a 99 on my Course 1 Regents in NYS.

let me slove it for ya..... go bak to secondary maths. =)

first (x+y)^2
=(x+y)*(x+y)
=(x*(x+y))+(y*(x+y))
=(x2+xy)+(xy+y2)
=x2+2xy+y2

Ok?
Second, go to question~~~

(x+y)^2 -(x-y)^2
=(x2+2xy+y2)-(x2-2xy+y2)
=x2+2xy+y2-x2+2xy-y2
=4xy

easy? cheers~ =D
