Gold Plating is just dipping it in Gold to give it that effect. It's an alternative for people who can't afford to get pure gold. So it creates an effect.

The problem with Gold-Plating is that it wears off. So you have to keep getting it redone ever 2 - 3 years.

If you're planning on getting married and prefer Gold, but you can't afford it, you could go with Gold-Plating. However, it will cost you more in the long run with continuous visits every 2 - 3 years to have it redone.

You're better off with Platinum. Platinum is a softer metal but it doesn't wear down as easily because it's denser. It's a heavier metal and you can feel it on your finger.

Theo ther thing to take into account with Gold is the skin tone of the individual who's wearing it. Asians can look nice in Gold. Poeple who have fair or lighter skin are better off with White Gold or Platinum.

When it comes to Gold, the Karat Weight also makes a difference when it comes to value. In Asian countries like Chinese, they have a higher gold standard with 24 Karats while the U.S. is 18 Karat.

If you don't have much money you could settle for White or Yellow Gold. Also take into account that if you're getting matching sets for a ring, the earings and necklaces would be better off matching whatever the ring is the female is wearing.

The other thing about gold is that some people's skin will react to it and turn green. You won't have that problem with Platinum.

Gold plating means that the jewelry is made of some metal (other than gold) and then coated with gold afterwards. Since the jewelry is only coated in gold, if you wear the piece often enough the plating might begin to rub off in spots.

gold plating is where they dip something into gold instead of making the whole thing out of gold. It does wear out ALOT faster and you have to make sure it doesn't get wet if it is a necklace because it could turn your neck green. You are better off spending the money and getting the real thing cause plated jewelry is good for only a short time.

Gold plating is the cheapest way to give a piece of base (non-precious) metal the look of gold. It can be done several ways, electroplating among them. It's used for inexpensive costume jewelry with no real value other than its appearance.

The cost of plating is practically nil, but if you wear the item a lot, the plating will wear off or be eaten away by sweat. You can usually have the item replated, but it's apt to cost more than the piece is worth.

gold plating is when you heat jewelry up, place a metalic stick solution over it and pour it into liquid gold, the metal should stick to it, giving it an extra layer of gold, and yes it makes it more valuable and it allows the material to last a long time

hope this helps :)

More valuable?? Only by a dollar or two.

Wear?? It depends on how thick the plating is. The better ones will wear for YEARS without a problem.
