Calling on the world: What is your opinion of the United States as of today?

Question

I hope this allows a least a few people to see what things look like from the outside looking in and vice versa. The bottomline is that America is so unpopular because of this administration interventionalist policies, while America is pissed off at the world for not supporting us on our endeavors.

But I would like to here it from you the people whether American, European, Asian, Africa, South American, or Austrailian,

1) how do you feel about the state of the world
2) What do you feel that the United States should do now
3) If you were the head of state of your country what would you do to try to fix things.
4) Your opinion on Islam and George Bush

Please share what country your from just so we can get an ideal on why you my feel the way you feel.

This is not an anti american rant. I am simply curious.

So far the Americans that have chimed in have shown the reasons that the world hates us

Can you see from some of the answers why we think little of Americans? We see the equivalent of some of these answers on Fox News and wonder what is it that makes you guys so self-righteous and opinionated? Some of you think YOU won the 2nd
World War, when all you did was get dragged in kicking and screaming at the end, claimed victory, and made a fortune from war. (It would have taken a bit longer, but we, the REAL Allies- Britian and it's colonies - would have won eventually. If Pearl Harbour hadn't happened, you probably wouldn't have entered.) And you haven't stopped making money from war, killing, causing trouble, lying, cheating, ever since. Before Bush, it was done secretly, but this idiot is doing it with such open disregard for world opinion that even some Americans are ashamed of him. Look at the Chavez episode: Clown Chavez or any other leader, would never have dared to say what he said (on American soil) about ANY other US leader. There seems to be utter outrage only on Fox, and they are always outraged about something somebody said or didn´t say about 'Honest' George, so that's par for the course.
The other channels gave it a brief mention, and it's gone. Some Americans even AGREED with Chavez!
The USA is the only superpower in the world today, and should take this responsibility VERY seriously, instead you guys elect an utter moron for President, (twice) and you had a good indication of what was to come when his father was President!
Your leader is, by default, the leader of the free world, and I, for one, resent being 'led' by a liar and a cheat.
At the moment, American foreign policy is 'polluting' the world, and Americans in general are being blamed for it. And you accept this like lambs to the slaughter. And some of you still defend 'Honest' George? Worse still, his approval ratings are rising again! GOD HELP AMERICA!

As an American this is what I have to say:

1. We are in deep trouble. Only about a half of all Americans and maybe a small portion of half a dozen countries actually care about what is at stake with the war on terror.

2.The US should keep doing what it has. Fight Al-Qaeda wherever she may be, rebuild Iraq(under the Geneva Convention they are required to undo the damage they made) and continue to shine the light of freedom into the darkest of corners.

3. I would start with trying to control spending in Congress. I would also find someone like Jack Bauer to head the Dept. of Homeland Security.

4. My opinion on Islam is that like many other religions. The worshipers should be given the same right to worship in the US as any other religion(which they are). The terrorists, in trying to force everyone to become Muslim have now become everything they hate in Americans.
As for Bush I think he is an idiot. But I support him because unlike many politicians throughout the world he has had the courage to do something about the problems that plague the world and his country even if I disagree with some of them.

Good question!

In my 42 years I've seen Americans become fatter, stupider, greedier and more religious. Maybe "more religious" is synonymous with "stupider". I've seen the middle class shrink while the upper class and lower class have become bigger. I've seen the likes of Walmart and Home Depot suck up "Mom & Pop" stores like corporate black holes. I've seen people become complacent and lazy. And, perhaps most disturbing, I've seen Nascar and Professional Wrestling become ultra-popular.

All in all, a pretty bleak picture. But I don't see America's status as a superpower diminishing, because the rest of the world ain't doing so hot either :-)

2. Replace Bush with someone who can do a better job.
3. Stop threatening the world with war/genocide. Open dialog with other nations and promote peace. Focus on similarities instead of differences. Act on the similarities and respect the differences.
4. Bush has no clue about Islam.

The United States under George Bush is acting like he owns the World, and the world's peoples and governments are required to heed our advice.
Islam is the largest Religion in the world aside from Buddhism maybe. They are a major player in the world. George W. Bush is not going to recognize this reality. He thinks when he barks everybody listens, but no.

I flew to New Zealand & Norfolk Island 2 years ago & talked to approx. 500 people on the airplanes & in NZ & Norfolk & out of 500,I found 2 people that said 'boy-george' was OK & all the rest despised him with a passion!

Islam sucks... it is the cause of all the problems on the planet... just look at where war and disruption is found and there is Islam.
