earthquake - you can build a earthquake proof house, but not so with a volcano.

Earthquake every time!!

Although earthquakes cannot be predicted, one can build a house and/or office building in such a manner to be virtually earthquake proof. Even though you might be inconvenienced by the disruption of services (e.g., gas, electric, water, etc.), you could be reasonbly assured of surviving the event.

However, in a volcanic eruption, prediction is only slightly better than earthquake prediction. A volcano eruption can blanket large areas with ash even if it doesn't cover them with lava. Trying to breathe ash-filled air is deadly and could last for many days which could shut down your air handling system even if you aren't completely buried many feet or meters of ash.

An earthquake is over in a few minutes; a volcanic eruption can go on for days or weeks. As example look at the island nation of Montserrat which was nearly wiped out by the long-lasting eruption in the mid 1990's. Also, the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, completely covered the Clark Air Force Base and resulted in the USA abandoning it. No one expected these types of long-term eruptions.

That is a bad question. It depends on the magnitude of the earthquakes and on the type of volcanic eruptions.

Earthquakes affect large areas, but volcanoes don't usually affect much more than the surrounding location.

...Unless you're talking about a supervolcano.

VOLCANO! Earthquakes are unpredictable, yet volcanoes are exciting and you know when (relatively) they are going to blow! Volcanoes are also much cooler to look at and study!

Volcanic region....Why? Because they are more predictable therefore able to see the immediate results in grand fashion. Earthquakes are less predictable and its source is not seen. Only a seismic reading is the only evidence of it's occurrence.
