My dad calls straws sissy sticks and he publicly berates me for using them in restaurants. I just think he's a poopy head.

look him square in the eyes, and say "look, poopy head, i mean dad, i LIKE straws. i'm able to drink iced drinks without having the ice clunk against my teeth and cause me pain. there's less mess and i don't have to wipe a liquid mustache off my upper lip every time i take a drink. and straws are so much more sanitary. if you don't like straws, don't use them. as for me, i will use a sissy stick, i mean straw, whenever i please." i guess at this stage of the conversation you may find out what the next step up from public beratement is. good luck and stay strong.

any parent that puts down there kid sucks first of all and it doesn't matter for what reason--secondly drinking through a straw keeps your teeth from getting stained by dark colored drinks like coke(bet your dad has dirty looking teeth) only down side is though that drinking through a straw causes gas

I don't like to drink out of public glasses, so i use straws! Who knows whos lips went on that glass before you?!
