We have had record breaking rains in south Texas and I thought Austin had gotten a lot, also.....so I am trying to figure out why your grass is brown. Do you regularly fertilize in the fall and spring??? also treat for fungus es????? or chinch bug????

Trying to grow grass in Texas is like trying to herd cats. I live in north Texas and am having problems as well. Your grass may or may not come back in the spring. A healthy lawn would still be green at this point, just starting to slow down its growth as the growing season winds down. Maybe try other options, like planting buffalograss, other groundcovers, or putting in some garden beds. Think outside the box.

Why dont you make garden sections out of your lawn and plant perinneals and ground covers where the lawn is ugly. You could put in a small arbor and reading area or a bird area, with stone paths to everything. Put down weed fabric and mulch where the paths are. Try planting drought resistant native plants. Or a small pond. Rethink the whole thing and make yourself a paradise, without all that grass to give you headaches and eat up your income watering.
Look into xeriscaping.
