The Wd40 just makes the belt slip more.....thus the louder squeal.... You need to find the problem , then fix it, instead of trying to cover it up. The most likely causes are either a worn gazed belt, a failing belt tensioner, or a bad bearing in the tensioner pulley or an idler pulley. A quality belt will cost about 30 bucks at your local NAPA, an idler or tensioner pulley with bearing is about $20 and a new tensioner assembly will set you back about 50 dollars or so.

Not to be critical here, but the squealing sound you are hearing is most likely the belt slipping, and putting WD40 on the pulleys only served to exacerbate the problem. You will need to remove the belt and thoroughly clean the pulleys and install a new belt to address the problem. The fellow who told you to put a lubricant on the pulleys was clearly either malicious or very ill-informed.

Just put a new serpentine belt on it and I guarantee you the noise will go away, all you had to do to check your belt out was to start the car and let it run and take water and pour it on the belt and if the noise goes away you need a belt.

the squealing is most likely coming from the belt rather than the pully. When you w-d 40 them all you done was make them slippery which will let the belt squeal more. clean the pully;s with a degreaser and put a new belt on.

this is neat other than your problem. first wd 40 is not a lubricant for rotating parts. its for loosening stuck and lubricating mild moving parts. it was invented a long time ago for arthritis pain/joint pain but fda found it not fit for sale and use on humans. therefore with the product and money loss they tested it again on various items an found it to displace water and eliminate rust. try some on your stiff joints some time it really does work. as far as the pulleys you can do it yourself if you can change the belt

most likely the guy you listen to was a fu cken MORON. spraying your belt with that lube is making the belt slip more. i would buy a new belt and wipe off and get some brake cleaner or something to wash off all your pulleys and see if that fixes your problem.

Tightening the belts may help if they are not cracked or stretched too badly.
You were told way wrong... if you must spray something, try BELT DRESSING. It is very sticky stuff, it may shut them up, but it's only a temporary fix. Available at NAPA, AUTO ZONE, etc.
Good luck to you.

don't use wd-40...
wd 40 will trash bearings. the belt tensioner is probably bad.
