most mine sweeper games have randomized mine locations
that means that the upper corner is just as likely to have a bomb as any other place
a common strategy that speeds the game up a little is to guess spots randomly here and there until one of them is near some no-mine-touch squares and "opens up"
of course this means that you often get blown up two or three times and start a new game before you get in a game that you actually play, but it is generally a little more fun to play one that starts a little "opened" AND, if you play for speed, you have to get a good start to be competitive
good luck
and, NO, the first touch is always a guess that could be fatal

The first hit is always a guess. However, if you are playing more than one game in a row, you can form a pattern of sorts. There is no certainty but there are chances that if you got blown up in a corner, the next game wont have the bomb there exactly. But don't always count on it, as stranger things have happened!

the type you play is... you wager the 1st time... and if no numbers are seen yet, wager back... till you get sufficient numbers... THEN, each and each extensive type you notice, is the form of bombs (end of game) on the circumference of that extensive type, that's the 8 blocks surrounding the extensive type. So making use of the numbers surrounding clean blocks, you may just about consistently decide if there's a bomb in that spot or no longer, by using ability of thinking it by... in case you're taking the attempt to think of approximately it for 5 minutes, you will fly by after that, that is quite a no attempt game as quickly as you get the play straightened out. i admire minesweeper!

The first click is always a guess. If you start in the middle you have a little more chance of finding a clear space or spaces with 1's. From then on, if you need to guess, it is better to click next to 1's than higher numbers.

The placement of the bomb is random so your first guess has an equal amount of odds of hitting it
