I think sometimes they need to make sure the student body is diverse enough, so then race may make a difference.

This is an interesting question - and one that a year or two ago the government of California was trying to do away with.
Some schools have a quota system. They accept approximately 85% through normal admissions - leaving 15% for special cases. A special case may be a person from an inner city background, a relative of a dean, or someone who is bright but was a product of his/her environment.
Many schools have done away with it - and they are not necessarily playing a race card.
Though some of us feel that way, when we were accepted to a school, and then called saying they had to let minority students in and therefore, we were out. (True story!)

Race is a factor in admissions when colleges want to admit the most talented and diverse entering class on their campus.

I know the colleges are going to say no to this, but the truth is, they do. To make "race" into factor, they are looking at the "socio-economic status" of the applicants, which again, correlates to the race of the application.

Yes, absolutely, depending on the school. A lot of times schools use affirmative action and they implement something like a points system. You get so many if you're a minority, so many if you're disabled and so many if you're a woman. A lot of people complain saying that this is unfair, but oftentimes it's the people who don't benefit from affirmative action policies that get into a tizzy about it - usually middle/ upper class white males.
Many of the schools who have huge application list and student body or are a prestigeous school implement AA, but sometimes not.
Namaste.

Sadly, yes race plays a factor. It should not, but beacuse of organizations such as the NAACP, ACLU, etc certain races are given favor for no other reason than their heritage...No matter what their academic capabilities are.

yeah alot of different factors are taken in consideration whether a student is admitted or denied. race and demographics play a role, a small role but still a role in the process.

yes because colleges/universities need to have a certain precentage of each race [correlating to the percentage of each race in the population]
