You might have an example in the book. You first put a 1 on top of the 5, then put a 4 below the 5 because 4 times the 1 you put there equals 4. Subtract the 5 by the 4 to get 1. Carry down the 0 to make the 1 into 10. You put a 2 on top of the 0 (and maybe a , on top of the ,), then put an 8 below the 10 because 4 times the 2 you put there equals 8. Subtract the 10 by the 8 to get 2. See what I'm saying? When you are finally left with a remainder of 1, you put 1/4 after the whole number or you use a .00 after the 5,069 and continue solving to get .25 after the decimal point.
