my friend was able to change virtually all the settings on his ipod like instead of say "music or settings" it could say like "gravy and potatoes" i wouldnt do that its just an example or instead of the little charger thing it would have a picture of a frog>

This can be accomplished through iPod firmware editing, the best application for this being iPod Wizard, available through http://www.ipodwizard.net/cmps_index.php . What you are looking for specifically is called String Editing, a tutorial for doing this is via iPod Wizard is available here: http://www.ipodwizard.net/wiki/index.php/Strings . you cant do that unless you hack the firmware which is VERY VERY VEry hardwork and complicated. also knowing the type of code it uses and the platform. such as java or for coding like c++ .
