I am assuming that their will be like minded people there. The thing is I have lived in this town for 3 years and have barely made any friends, not due to lack of trying, its a very conservative town, and very very judgemental. Do you think it would be appropriate for me to try and meet some new people, and try to maybe forge some friendships while there. Obviously after the work is done, or before it starts, not while we are working. I am just going nutso with no new friends to talk and hang out with.

Absolutely, YES. This is a much better way to meet other like minded people than online dating, bars, or whatever. So try to meet some people and make friends. Don't expect it to all happen at once, but make sure they know you are open to reaching out and making some friends!

Enjoy your day and the people there for the qualities that you appreciate. Yes, it's appropriate. Who knows, maybe you will end up making a real friend along the way.

It's great to make friends and I hope you soon find many. But planned parenthood? Have you researched the history of the organization and it's founder? I mean independently, not in their own literature

Sure, why not...It's not really like you have anything to lose in this situation...
