Rent a movie called High Tension (Haute Tension en français). It's a French film with Cecille de France (Around the World in 80 Days with jackie Chan). Throughout the movie they actually have the sound of tension in the background - very gripping! I didn't much care for the ending, but it's still a good slasher flick.
