though dial up connections have speeds upto 57kbps...they give us only speed of 10 or below..i mean to say when u download a file the maximum file transfer rate is arounf 10kbps in most places...dsl is many times faster than that...

It depends on how clear your phone line is and also what peed and type of modem you have for dial up. i can get 52 kbps on a 56k v92 modem.

The fastest I have seen is 56 kbps. DSL is much faster. Suggest you take the plunge to faster connection

They have a max of 53Kb/sec. I know that they say 56Kb, but the phone lines will only give you 53Kb 53,000 BAUD that is, which is an actual 5KB/sec download speed.

technically up to 56kbps. but based on a lot of things, like negotiated speed, compression, house wiring, CO wiring, etc... it can vary. 56kbps = 7kBps

Depends on the modem you use but normally it is 56Kbps these days.
