The absolute best time to visit in terms of cost is 2nd or 3rd week in December, right between the National Finals Rodeo and Christmas. I have gone there for the past 6 years at that time, with my dad until he passed away last year. We have always had at least one or two nights for free or 10 bucks a night, and the rest was still only about 25 to 40 bucks a night.
The place is kind of dead, but it's nice because "dead" in vegas is still very lively! In fact, I like it better because there are no crowds or lines for the buffets, shows, clubs, or anything else!
The next cheapest time to go is last week or two of August, when it is at the hottest in Vegas and people are not going because they have school coming up for the kids. The heat is not bad, 110 to 115 and a dry heat, and it's true that dry heat makes a difference and is comfortable.
The WORST times to go are on ANY weekend, the prices skyrocket, or during any holiday whatsoever, from Christmas to New Years to memorial day to columbus day.
A trick you can use also - either go from Sunday to Friday to get the low rates, or if you stay a weekend, leave Vegas on Friday and go to Los Angeles to visit, because in L.A. the hotel rates drop on the weekends (business travelers leave) and the rates in Vegas shoot up. Then on Sunday drive back to Vegas, this way you visit two awesome places and your costs are very low!!!

I actually went about 5 years ago for a quick three day trip from Sun - Thursday and my total cost was only $200 which included hotel & airfare. Sign up on the hotel websites for email specials. When I went, I got an email from the MGM Grand and got a great special of buy 2 nights get 1 free and it was only $69 a night! I was there from December 18 - 21. Good luck!

Mid week is always cheaper. Look for late summer bargains as it is stinko hot and hotels often have good deals. A great time to visit that you can always rely on it being cheap is the week before Xmas. Many big name strip hotels will offer rooms in the $79 to $99 range (if you book through their web site).

I suggest a combination of the answers below - during the summer, again during the winter and always cheaper Sun - Thurs stay if you're taking a short visit, or Sun - Sun if staying 7 days.
Find a travel agent and tell them when you'd like to go. Ask them to find you a hotel air package. They can also check on sales on these packages. It'll get you the best deal and you won't waste your time looking around.

Its not so much the time its more of when you book. My last Vegas client booked in April for august and I got them 5 days 4 nights on the strip with transportation air and hotel for $280.00 from Chicago. now its really high. E-mail me your dates and I can get you a price.

anytime is the best time of the year but the average hotel will cost you on the average of 159 and up plus tax. If you are a frequent Traveller, like myself, then your best hotel worldwide is Holiday Inn in which you can call them up by dialing 1-800-HOLIDAY.
Have a good day.
Good luck.

Try http://Luxe.worldventures.com They search all the other main sites like Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, hotel and airline sites and offer you the lowest price. You’ll save even more when you book it as a package like air and hotel together. Plus they’re the only online site that offers LIVE chat where you can make your specific requests such as non-smoking, king-size or double beds, etc.
Check them out and see.
