Probably not a composite cone. If the shield volcano was the Island of Hawaii then I would choose the shield volcano. Why? Because it is the Island of Hawaii.

They bleed rather than erupt. Anyone can outrun a lava flow.

On the other hand, explosive eruptions travel faster than sound, and pyroclastic flows from them, containing choking gases, can overtake a fast car.
