If you're using XP Pro, you can enable IIS (short for Internet Information Services). You may need the XP Pro CD to install it. I would suggest searching the internet for instructions as it's too much to post here.

If you're using XP Home, you'll need a 3rd party Webserver such as Apache (http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi).

Another thing to find out before you go through all the trouble is if your broadband provider allows the running of webservers on their network. In many cases, they block outbound webserver ports to prevent people from setting up webservers at home without paying for a business connection.

It is not too difficult but it is time consiming.

You need to know some things. Does your ISP allow you to host a servet on your connection? Not all do. You can't do this on a dial-up, you will need a constant connection like DSL or cable. Assuming they will allow you to have a server, next you need a fixed IP address or use a dynamic free DNS service like Zoneedit so your IP address will relate to your domain. Next, a domain name, and a web server package. There are a number of free packages out there. Do a search for "free dns" for the dynmanic IP hosts and "free web server" to find a web server package.

Just go to download dot com and download a web server program. There are many on there.

Get Apache for Windows for your webserver. You will also need some dynamic dns, dyndns.org.... and if you want a legitimate name, you will need to register one (www.dotster.com) and create a cname to your dyndns name.
