The most outstanding plant in your picture is a cattail. Great plant found in water and swampy areas. Have a read about them. The plant is a "survivalist" plant. The young shoots can be eaten, the heads can be made into a flour, etc, etc. Many uses for the cattail. Often home to the redwinged blackbird.
