I obtained this router from scrap. Im using hyperterminal to access it . The router boots but it prompts me to enter a password which I dont know. I read some documentation from cisco systems where they explain a process but I am not getting a command prompt to enter the commands explained in the documentation

Maybe your version of HyperTerminal is not sending the break character, not that you may have to press ctrl-break. With hyperterminal up an running while connected to the console port, power up the router and after a few seconds press Ctrl-Break and at the rommon prompt, type "confreg 0x142" and then "reset". Now, if it asks you to run a config utility, just type no and hit enter. Then type "enable" and then "conf term" and then "enable secret xxxx" where xxxx is your password. Then type "config-reg 0x2102" and then hit Ctrl-Z and type "copy run start" and then "reset" one more time.

Is this the page you were reading?

Click on resetting the router.
That should work.
