I would think this is a pretty common problem and that the solution is always the same. The cord and plug-in appear undamaged but it just won't "click" and stay in. It still works but slides out without any resistance.

It is a Dell Inspiron 8500 series laptop with the plugin in the back.

The dog refuses to fix it, i tied showing him a dog bone then pointing at what he did. He just stares at it, I think maybe he isn't familier with this model. I know that he uses it cause my updates are always installed on tuesday mornings.

Thanks if you can help!

The clip on the cable is broken. You can buy a cable pliers and all the fittins but it would be easier to just buy a new straight thru networking cable. Try radio shack.

Have a close look at the plug and see if there is a clip on one side. if the clip is still there just gently move the clip outwards (away from the body of the clip), then see if the plug will "click" into place & stay there. If the clip is missing you will have to replace the cable as without the clip you have no means by which to secure the cable.

you want to plug the different end of the cable into your router, the stressed connection will come on the on the spot. It skill carrying your laptop to anyplace your router is. Assuming that you're ultimately attempting to examine a on the spot connection it somewhat is, you want a router in case you do not have one. once the cable has usual a stressed connection you could configure your on the spot settings and also you're all waiting to flow. Ethernet or "community" cables are on the whole for configuring on the spot connections between router and computing gadget. only set up a stressed connection consisting of your modem and filters the former-formed way in case you do not favor on the spot.

This is a common thing, but unfortunately you may have to send the laptop to dell to be repaired. I have had this same issue with compaq laptops, they make the plastic around the rj-45 jack very weak.

sorry to give you bad news.
