The Egyptian Book of the Dead was a collection of prayers and songs that supposedly helped the departed soul of the Pharaoh or other important person navigate underworld on his path to immortality.

Modern mystics (charlatans!) have seized on what they think is a cool-sounding title and created their own Book of the Dead as a path to their witchcraft or whatever it is they call what they do.

If you've ever heard of a book called the "Necronmicon" you may have heard that its a book of satanic spells and whatnot. In fact, there never was a "Real" Necronomicon--merely a fictional book featured in horror stories written in the early 1900's by H.P. Lovecraft, a pioneer of horror fiction.
