Try the addition method. Multiply the 2nd equation by -2.
Your system will now look like this:
8x + 3y = 3
-8x - 10y = 46

Now add the two and you get: -7y = 49, or y = -7.

Now, you can go to any equation, substitute the -7 for y and solve for x.

8x + 3y=3
4x + 5y=-23

8x+ 3y=3 8x +3y=3 -7y=49
-2(4x +5y=-23) -8x -10=46 y=-7

8x + 3(-7)=3
8x + -21=3
8x=24
x=3
Answer is : y=-7 and x=3
