Exactly. No one teaches their children how to behave anymore. They don't discipline for anything and just let their kids run wild.

First of all, don't confuse respect with courtesy. Courtesy is behavior like not interrupting, not talking back, using a napkin at the dinner table, saying please and thank you.
Respect, the holding of something or someone in high esteem, must be earned. How many parents today are not acting in ways the earn their children's respect. Respect cannot be dictated. You don't get it automatically by being a parent, putting on a uniform, or teaching a class.
You can require courtesy, but you can't command respect. Behavior, physical actions, can be purchased, coerced, cajoled, bribed or enticed into being. The capturing of the mind is an entirely different matter. You win over the heart and mind by being worthy of it, through the example of your own actions.
For the most part, I find the children will rise to the occasion. If you expect good manners and behavior and act consistently, you get them. If you set a good example and show you care, respect follows. Look to your own example and behavior first for your answer.

Because most kids these days aren't going to take sh*t from anyone including a gray-haired granny or someone who is considerly older than them. I'm one of those kids you speak of, I respect people who respect me. Just because you're older than me doesn't mean you can treat me any kind of way. Life is a two-way street baby. (I'm kind of glad the younger generation is like that, most older people abused that power in the past and molested and abused a lot of younger people with that "respect your elders" bullsh*t)
