I was just wondering, because I used to be really flexible, and a friend and I were doing splits the other day, and I could barely do one anymore, haha. Are there certain stretches that help the most?

for the splits? Try the frog sit. Lay on your stomach make your legs into a diamond shape and try to touch your heels to thee floor. the butterfly helps a little too. sit up straight, bring your heels in as far as you can with your knees pointed out, try to touch your knees to the floor, also find an empty wall, do a straddle, and move your self as close to the wall as you can and hold that position for a while ((!!!Careful when you get out of it!!!)) lay on your back with your butt in the corner between the wall and the floor, you should look like your sitting on the wall in the shape of the letter "L", then separate your your legs as far as they go. Gravity will help push them down. Hold it for a while. careful getting out of this position too!!! Take it slow and support your legs under the knees with your hands when you do. Hold your splits for as long as you can each day. do a straddle on the floor and lay down as far as you can on each leg, reach and try to touch your elbows to the floor, then your stomach. keep your toes pointed up or down so that your little toe is closest to the floor. Stretching in the pike position will also help warm you up. sit and reach for your toes. touch your fingertips to your toes and then your wrists. try to touch your elbows to the floor or your nose to your knees.

Most books and instructors and vidoes say to practice everyday. Like most things in life, it takes more than a week to get really stretchy if you do not come by it naturally. just stretch whenever you can....at least once every day...try to do one more minute longer than you did the day before. Hang in there, and try to make it fun. just make sure you are doing the stretches safely. You can either take a class or get a video. If you don't have any money you can check them out from your local public library. good luck.

Yoga is the way to go.
Its the oldest form of exercise and the asanas (poses!) help you to get flexible!....

Try stretching everyday...little by little....you will soon find yourself where you were once. :)

...also if you workout on a treadmill ... ALWAYS have a warm shower there after.
