I would first try your local junk yards. If you can't get one there Try Ebay. I have found some great deals on nice motors on there. Shipping can be expensive but sometimes with a lower price and shipping it about equals what you would pay for it locally.

Around Wichita KS there are many salvage yards. You can check here to see if there are any available. You might also check with Auto Zone, O'Reiley's
I do not know if any of the salvage yards here have a web site, but you can go the the yellow pages.com for Wichita KS and look under auto salvage and I hope that you can find a good one. They are usually gaurenteed for a little while.I do not know any in San Diego area.

Best option is ATTARCO.
japan has VERY draconian smog laws. When the car gets the equivalent of 60K, they are required to do MAJOR repairs or crush them. So the engine is pulled and a new engine is installed. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the engine, so marketers such as ATTARCO buy them and export them to America and we buy them. They are all in pretty good shape, Give 'em a try.

"junkyard" --or look in the newspaper,- under "automotive parts" there is somebody that advertises nationwide, - selling "good used" japanese engines. Most have around 36,000 miles on them and have been checked over pretty good. In Japan they require engine replacement on cars every 36,000 miles (talk about job security!)
