i bought a new set of guitar strings today, and i opened them and each string was like "first string-E" and i am not einterly sure which side of the guitar has the first string. i am a righty, so i play with the neck to my left side, so is the string that is closest to me the first string, or the 6th string? sorry if i confused you but i don't know how else to put it. so basically my question is which string on a guitar is the first string and which is the 6th string

The 6th string is the string that is closest to you when you play. The 1st sring is the thinnest E string.

The first string is on the top, yes your guitar should face left. That is the E string. Then, A, D, G, B, E

i think, holding the guitar w/the neck to the left, usually the bottom e string, the smallest one, is referred to as the 1st string. from bottom to top it's e, B, G, D, A, E
