I personally think this person had a stick up their butt but heres the story...

I bought a ticket to see Wedding Crashers when it came out. One of my friends(who was 18) was running late so she asked me to buy the ticket for her to save time when she finally got there. So I try to buy another ticket when the guy who sold me the first ticket told me he wont sell me another one because its rated r and i might sell it to people under 17. Now I COMPLETELY understand and I figured this is a rule they must follow. Except I happen to know the guy in front of me and his girlfriend was like 16 and wasnt old enough to buy a ticket so he purchased two from the same guy who just told me I couldnt buy two. If I figured this out earlier instead of a day later I would have definitely complained to the manager. Dont you hate when you realize something until its too late?

Anyways its still bugs me and I want to know for future reference.

cyanne2ak- You didnt answer my question. If he was following company policy then I understand but I was wondering if movie theatres are allowed to sell two tickets of a rated r movie to the same person.

Gosh it is so hard to explain things on the internet okay..

loreric- What I meant is if it in fact was (emphasis on was) policy then I understand. And my question is if it in fact is (emphasis on is) policy.

No, I don't think there is an actual rule about one person purchasing two tickets for an R rated movie, but the seller took it upon himself and assumed that you were buying the second ticket for a minor because unfortunately there are so many dishonest people. As for the younger people who were ahead of you, again the seller made an assumption believing these two people were of age. When someone is in this position, he or she can only make guesses sometimes, and therefore must use his or her own personal judgement. Don't be too upset about this because that person who sold tickets has certainly forgotten about you and life is full of unfair situations.

If you know the answer and understand it as you state in you expansion what is your question? The fact that the cashier made a mistake and sold tickets to underage people is his mistake but has nothing to do with you or your inability to buy two tickets. Your knowledge that the two buyers were underage is something that the cashier may not know but he does know when one person is buying two tickets. That is a no brainer,it's against the rules. That all that concerns you.

Don't sweat the small stuff. If you were under 17, you should just be glad you got away with buying even one ticket. If you were over 17, try it again and see what happens. If the "policy" is still in effect, take your issue to the manager.

R - Restricted Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian. Technically, they can sell more than one ticket to an adult. There is no law that says the have to.

Normally, for rated R movies, the person needs to show their ID to buy the ticket. But I guess it really depends on the movie theater and how lenient they are.

Well, deal with it. He's abiding by his company policy, which obviously does not say to VERIFY the age of the person you're selling to, just sell them only one.
