I have had two natural labors, and my pitocin induction was just 11 days ago. There was a big difference. My natural labors were very fast, and there was almost no break between contractions. Labor lasted about 3 hours, but hurt like hell.
With my pitocin induction, labor lasted 10 hours, but the contractions were not very painful until the very end (9+cm dilated). I got a break in between contractions so I could catch my breath, something I never got with my natural labors.

I had pitocin with my first and needed an epidural right away. The problem with taking pitocin is that your delivery speeds up so fast that your baby is not given time to adjust to the increase in pain from the contractions. Studies show that women who have pitocin to help induce or speed up labor are more then twice as likely to need drugs to help with the pain. I am almost nine months pregnant with my second and am hoping to have a natural delivery this time. In about a month I will be able to tell you for sure.

I have only had the 1 baby so far and I was induced. They did not give me the pitocin right away because after they broke my water they wanted to see if my contractions would get stronger on their own and they did not so they gave me the pitocin and I honestly dont remember feeling any different in terms of pain. My first labor was pretty short, only 6 hours. I am due anyday with my second child and hope I go into labor on my own this time. Even though I want this baby out, I really dont want to be induced again. Also if you are afraid of the pain get the epidural. I had one last time but wated too long to ask for it and it did not work. Assuming I get to thie hospital on time or if they induce me, I dont plan to beat around the bush this time and will get the epidural ASAP.

My first childbirth came natural, and I was only in labor for 4 1/2 hours total. Of course, I was in the best physical condition with that pregnancy, too. My second and third deliveries were both pitocin induced, and they were very hard and strong contractions, with no easing into it and very few breaks. I didn't enjoy being pregnant (I was ready to move on to the next phase!) so I didn't object to induction. But otherwise, I think I prefer the natural method.

I think the difference between an natural labor and a pitocin induced labor is you get a gradual build up in a natural labor, and pitocin comes all at once.

My first birth was natural and super painful. The second birth was induced by pitocin and was so much better. I did not receive drugs during labor. I did request a local painkiller for my second birth so I could not feel myself rip, which had prevented me from pushing with my first birth. It depends on your Dr. He knew my body well and was able to start me off on the smallest dose of pitocin and it gradually went up, so the pain gradually increases and it didnt hit me all at once. I would use pitocin again.

I have never labored without pitocin, and I agree it was awful. I think the difference is that when you labor naturally you get a break in between. With pitocin, the contractions come on so strong and quick there is no time to rest in between (my experience anyway).
Do you have the right to refuse it?

Let me tell you natural labor hurts bad. If you have had pitocin induction. Why didn't they give you Epidural it does not affect the baby in anyway. Then all you feel is pressure on your down stairs when it is time to push. It makes child birth so so much easier. You are not as tired as you would be with natural child birth. I have had three with out any drugs, and two with drugs. So don't be scared to use anything k.

I have only had one delivery and it was with pitocin. I do think it is a little more difficult only because I could not emagine that pain without some help.
When I was seeing doctors and nurses before my labor, someone told me they had it both ways and with pitocin they did not need drug and without they used drugs.
I guess it depends on you and your body.
