okay here is the load down on Oahu. The biggest crime there is theft. it's a concrete jungle, it's very expensive to live there and very crowed. Yes there is still some beauty left but not like the the other islands. I really did not like it very much but your family might

I love it! I've traveled all over the mainland and I wouldn't want to be any place else.

However... It's not for everyone.

It's laid back and that's great on vacation, but it seriously bugs some people, especially "Type A" people who work fast, are on time and expect the same from others.

Other people get island fever and need to get off the rock for a while. "Been there, done that" sets in fairly fast for some people. (They go stir crazy)

No matter what race you are... You will be a minority. Everyone is very pleasant and laid back but some people have culture shock. No people who can relate to relate to you, your music, food preferences, life experiences, etc, etc... It's a drag for people who are not open to new things.

If you're a flexible type of person, you'll probably love it. If you're set in you're ways... You'll leave after your duty is over.

Crime is not a big problem. Most crime involves consenting adults who like to party with illegal substances like Meth. It's almost all vice crimes. Not very much violence. Don't be stupid and leave your car unlocked or stuff laying around. If there is an obvious opportunity... Someone will take your stuff. (Duh)

I think it's a great place. You're very fortunate to be stationed here.

Aloha,
Dave.
