There are a hundred different reasons why your little piggy could have died but I am going to make a few options.
First you have to think about a few things... Was he eating, drinking, pooping? Did anyone other than yourselves have access to him such as a young child that may have dropped him?
Next, I am assuming you got a pet store pig. As a note, go to a rescue next time and I think you will have better luck.
Pet store pigs are generally diseased and full of parasites. The biggest issue is upper respiratory infection. Did he have labored breathing or could you hear him breathe or wheeze? Was there any discharge from his nose or mouth or eyes? 95% of pet store pigs come home with a URI, 80% go undiagnosed and I would say probably 25% of those turn into pneumonia and die.
Was it a male pig? Was he pooping properly? Were they little bean shapes? He could have been impacted? Did anyone check out his penis for a blockage? Of course they don't Tell you that at the pet store that you have to look at their undercarriage. Some pigs get some bedding stuck in their urethra and get blocked which will eventually lead to toxemia.
OR, if there was a drastic change of food, sensitive pigs will die of sepsis because their guts get inflamed and infected. I had my Zippy die of this and I had him necropsied to find out why he dropped dead. So you should always make graduated food changes.
There are a lot of reasons, but any of them won't bring him back.
Go to a rescue next time, get a healthy pig. Get some of their food and gradually switch to the food you will be feeding just in case.
Be well,

Guinea Pigs can come down with human colds. They also can come down with vitamin C defiency easily. These are the biggest main cause in death of Guinea Pigs. You can tell if it has a cold by sneezing, runny nose, runny eyes etc.

It is possible the cold gave him a shock. The shock would disorientate him, and would cause spasms etc; like you described. It is also possible he was stressed, guinea pigs often die of stress sadly, but I would have thought that would not cause the symptoms. Did you use petsafe shampoo? Or petsafe soap? Otherwise it might have done him some harm. Next time, do not bath unless you NEED to.

Sorry to hear your little piggy died. Possibly Toxemia. Usually already has it when bought from pet shop. No signs of illness until literally an hour or so before the death. When my piggy died, for about an hour before had slight snuffles, then opening and closing mouth, then died. as quick as that and nothing could of saved my piggy.Get another one from different store.Try again, they,re worth it. GOOD LUCK x

Did you overfeed him? Or perhaps you have a gas leak...or did someone spray for bugs? It could be many different things. He may have been ill when you bought him, or just old..Some rodents can be literally scared to death as well. Do you have a dog or cat that might have frightened h im?

Guinea pigs usually don't show signs of illness until they are really sick. He was probably sick when you got him.
