Get a glass jar with pond water and shredded seaweed. Keep it at room temperature near a window and it will produce the insofuria you need for fry. Add a few drops a day to feed them. The insofuria may not be big enough to see, but they will be there. Also, boil an egg yolk in a cup of water and put it through a blender, a few drops of this will also feed fry.
You fish store should keep packages of frozen blood worms as well as brine shrimp (and baby brine shrimp for the fry). Earthworms are extremely good for your bettas if you can get them small enough. Just make sure they aren't the red ones.
You can also puree raw beef heart in water and freeze it flat in ziploc baggies, break off small bits of it to feed your bettas.

I used to breed with bettas. They don't eat a lot. If you buy the small betta pellets you feed them one and wait until they eat it, then the next one. They should only eat about 5 pellets in the morning and 5 at night. Don't overfeed them. You can certainly feed them earthworms. Make sure you know that no source of poison has touched the earth where you are getting the worms from! You will have to cut the worms into extremely small pieces, like 1mm pieces - chopped in other words. The problem you will have is that the chopped worms will dirty the water which could lead to disease if you don't clean the water very regularly. Buy the small Betta pellets at Wall mart. That is all they need. To see them spawn is fantastic and something I will never forget - hope you get to see it.

don't get fooled by the name. Bloodworms are not actually worms. They are insect larva. Supposedly that is only supposed to be used as a treat for them and use regular fish food with them, but with all the bettas we have ever had, and we've had around 10 over the past several years, we've always fed them just blood worms and they seem pretty happy and healthy with that.

Ok you need to go to petsmart or any petstore and buy San Francisco Bay Brand Blood Worms. you cant use earth worms they may have toxins form the soil that will kill your fish. You can also buy reg beta fish flakes good luck. also Atison's Betta PRO is another good food.
