In your experience, how soon could you hear your baby's heartbeat with an at home heart monitor. NOT, one from the doctor but with one from like Wal-mart or somewhere like that?

It took awhile.... And the problem is that even when you think you've found the heartbeat, it may not be it. At least that's what my dr told me, that sometimes you hear our own heart beating. Anyways, going back to your question, I think I was able to hear it on my own monitor at around 4-5 months.
Good Luck and have a healthy pregnancy!

I've been trying since I was 16 weeks pregnant (now 25) and I STILL haven't heard the heartbeat. I've been told by others that they weren't able to ever hear the heartbeat with those at-home devices. I would also suspect that the baby would have to be big enough to hear the heartbeat... probably 5 months at least.

Eighteen to twenty weeks is when the fetal heartbeat is strong enough to be heard with a stethoscope. Around the same time you will be able to hear it with one of the at home monitors. Keep in mind though that your weight also comes into play on this. A smaller woman will be able to hear the heartbeat with one long before a larger woman... put simply the fat gets in the way.

WIth the bebesounds one, closer to 7 or 8 months. We had problems with ours because we lived near a highway. It has to be perfectly silent because its just a super microphone and then you can get your heartbeat and the babies mixed up. It wasn't worth the $25-$30 we paid for it. Most second hand baby stores usually have a few in stock you can buy cheaper. You can rent a doppler online. They have a prices for every budget. Our Dr allowed us to borrow one during the pregnancy.

With those cheap ones you will never hear the heart beat, with my last pregnancy I bought a "Bebe sounds" and was never able to listen to the heart beat. When I was about 6 months I rented one from "Belly beats" it is like the ones the Dr. uses and then I got peace of mind.

I end up buying it, and I am using it currently with this pregnancy. To hear your baby's heart at home, and have the reassurance your little bundle of joy is just doing fine within you, is priceless.

Please please please dont buy your own monitor, its a stress tool waiting to happen
What are you going to do if you cant find a heart beat..........panick
when it may just as well be that its there and your not looking in the right place.....

PRESENCE OF A HEART RATE DOESNT MEAN YOUR BABY IS WELL
Too many women who have monitors ignore movements significance and i find they turn up to me with a baby in poor condition saying BUT I HEARD ITS HEART RATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rely on fetal movements , this is a very clear way to find out that your baby is ok, and the most accurate way to make sure its placental supply is good.

If its quiet try a dose of sugar, soda cordial, juice and withing 20 min your baby should move...........

Then if your worried and your baby isnt moving come and see someone who knows how to interpret what they are hearing

I heard at 29 weeks. My friend couldn't hear until she was 32 weeks along. It takes a while but once you hear it remember where you heard it because that will be the place you will usually hear it. Also to make sure it's not your heartbeat just feel your pulse and if they match up then it's the wrong heartbeat. You shouldn't be able to hear your heartbeat in your abdomen but you never know.
