I wish I could say that I have ideas. My best advice is to talk to people currently doing the idea that you have in mind see what their time committment is like.
I am starting my own part-time business and I have to say the start up is a full-time job. Avon, Mary Kay and the like only work if you are willing to put the time into it AND you have a network of people. One person at my job simply leaves catalogs around the office and everyone orders and she delivers it to them. I have seen people throw parties, sell out of their trunks at malls and flea markets.
I agree with the above about involving friends. Don't sell to your friends unless they want your product. It's okay to ask for contacts, but friends will stop answering the phone if you call to hit them up.

i have a part time job waitressing on Friday & saturday nights.....i also put the clothes my kids grow out of on ebay....and i recycle everything
i tried selling Avon, and i did alright around the holidays....but you really end up putting more hours into it than a part time job without as much money as a part time job.....so grab a telemarketing or surfin tables job, if you have lots of energy and are great at making friends serving is for you....otherwise learn to sell sattelites over the phone!!
good luck!

Find a better job! Looking for extra income elsewhere will NOT get you the income you need. I suggest working at Walgreens drug store if there is one near you. They pay very well, and there is room for growth (management). They also have great insurance benifits!

"Avon Calling!" I wouldn't reccomend it, but if it's a last resort...... There are better things you can do. If your job is so low-paying you should quit and find a new one!
