I have been told that you first explode and then you freeze. Your body is pressing out at fifeteen pounds per square inch. As soon as there is no similar pressure pressing in we explode. While a body is operating freezing is delayed for as much as a minute so you will explde and then freeze.

In theory you will die (nobody has actually gone to space without spacesuit). But here is how, In space there's no pressure, air, oxygen or any other component that sustain life, so this "emptyness" is called vacum. After about 2.5 second you will freeze to death then, because of the absence of pressure your skin literally will peel off or fall down :-(, your bones will be crushed; all this taking less that 8 seconds. After a minute you will be history and what is left of you will become part of the universe...(Sounds like terror story; but it is believed is the truth!)

Considering that space is a vaccum, where there is no air pressure, and at sea level on Earth, the air pressure is about 14psi, the gasses embedded in your body would force its way out of your body, causing you to explode. Your bits would either freeze or burn up depending on whether you were in sun or shadow. There is about a 400 degree difference between sun and shadow in space.

Actually you don't pop or explode. Yes you do get the bends very rapidly but you would most likely die from internal hemorrhages due to the fact that there is 0 pressure in space.

This was covered in an "Itchy and Scratchy" cartoon on The Simpsons. Your head will rapidly expand and explode. It's hilarious.

The Earth's air pressure is optimum for us because it keeps dissolvable gasses in our blood vessels opposed to outside. In space there is less air pressure thus these dissolvable gases would boil out--expanding our blood vessels causing them to burst.
Freezing is a common misconception--instead you would pop.

the soviets did expirment on captured nazis after ww2 for thier spae program. they'd stick a nazi in a pressure tank and then vacuum all the air out. end result, after many tries, 'pop'.
on earth, the airpressure keeps you inside your skin. without something keeping the pressure on you, you pop like a water ballon.
i.e. the ballon around the water s holding the water in, you remove the ballon, nothing is there to hold the water together.

Without going into the details, which are hideous, you die an excruciating and fast (but not nearly fast enough) death.
Being spaced would be a truly horrible way to go.

Hi. Arthur C. Clarke got it about right in 2001. You would survive about a ninety seconds, you wouldn't explode, you would remain conscious for about ten seconds. http://www.sff.net/people/Geoffrey.Landis/vacuum.html
