well it doesnt say that they actually paid the 30 dollars. IT said they had to pay 9 each which equals 27 dollars. they gave an additional two dollars to the bellboy. So really they only paid 27.65 (approx.) cents a piece..there is no extra dollar.
Or it is stating that they only paid 27 dollars total including the bellboy..Meaning that the hotel room was only 25 dollars and bellboy got 2.00. There is no money missing either way you look at it.

The 3 guys gave the manager $30 (nice room).
The manager decided to give them a $5 discount.
He gave the bell boy $5 to give the men. The bellboy gave the men $3 and kept $2 so the men only paid $27 and the bellboy had $2. where did the other dollar go?????
