so i should be able to put nearly a thousand songs on it...but as of now i have only 516 songs, and it's full. all my songs are basically normal length...so i don't understand why it's already full. and i already took all my picture albums off and everything..

first off, having a 4gb means you can hold about 3.8 gb and they say 1000 1 minute songs only
any longer takes off about a song per each minute

4 gb means 4096mb thats means if ur 1 songs size is 7.5 mb then u can get only 516 songs so try find songs whos size is 3-4 mb then u can get more then 516 to 650 songs

Whats the big deal? are you really going to listen to all of the 516 songs? you're probably even going to forget you have some of them in there....

Same for me. Have 548 songs, though. Either it's a total jip from Apple or it loses LOTS of space when it formats the hard drive.

Go to Apple's tech support message board and they have people in there that can walk you through your problem.
