I rent an old trailer. I'm getting ready for my 2nd winter in it, so know what to expect and one thing I'm going to do is put plastic on the windows. I was told by some to put it on the inside, others told me to put it on the outside. So which is it?

Cold weather = inside

Hail and rain = outside

In Minnesota and North Dakota we put the plastic on the outside. When installing it, if you heat the plastic with a hair dryer it will "soften" the plastic letting you stretch it tight. Once the plastic cools it should be very tight.

if you put it on the outside you need to use something a little stronger like a vapor barrier plastic. use tuck tape to make sure the bond stays the winter.. you might want to use some sort of insulation like foam to seal any cracks.

If it is the stuff that you shrink with a hair dryer, it goes on the inside. The really heavy stuff goes on the outside

if you put it on the outside you'll have to duct tape it. dan cause a mess when you take off. you can put on inside, use battons to staple it on the insdes of window sile.
