When the temperature drops to freezing, our refrigerator (and freezer) in our garage stops working. I know there are blankets for water heaters--I was wondering if there was a similar wrap for a fridge so we could use the fridge through the cold months.

Yes there is actually a small heater that is all you need to have installed on the compresser unit. It's relatively inexpensive to install, call a local refrigeration tech and explain what you need. There is no need to insulate the cabinet itself.

No this is serious, it keeps the compresser at a fairly consistant tempreture regardless of how low the ambient tempreture drops. It's actually a common install in just the situation you have. It's not as simple as just shutting off the unit or leaving the door open. There are many parts of the country that can drop below freezing at night and warm during the daytime into the 70's. Leaving the door open or turning the unit off would not be a good idea during these types of condition's.

I'm sorry..... you must be kidding.... if it's cold out then just leave the door open.

Or just turn if off.....unplug...if it is colder outside the refrigerator then it will be only slightly warmer inside.
