I'd tell him to straighten up and focus on his grades, and take away privelages if he doesn't. About the cheating, I wouldn't accuse him of anything I don't know for sure. As for the D, maybe that's one class he's midly interested in, but maybe not too good in it? Or maybe he just tried on one big assignment which brought his grade up a little. Yes, you should encourage him to do better, but I wouldn't accuse him of cheating unless you know he did. Good luck!

No to both questions. I would check with the teachers to see if his bad grades are due to skipping classes, not doing his homework, screwing off in class, etc. If he is doing any of this, ground him from whatever he likes to do the best until the grades improve.

If not, you should become involved in his homework to see what he is having problems with. Work with him on those areas. Most schools have one class period where tutoring is offered. He should take advantage of that also.

There are cases where the child has started using drugs; failing grades are an indicator of this. Hopefully your kid is not doing this.

Good luck!

No. I'd accuse him of a total lack of effort. At least cheating implies some kind of effort, and he obviously didn't even put out that much. I'd provide the suitable encouragement needed to make improvement in all subjects.

With grades that bad, I would think if he was cheating, he would opt for at least a C+. He is definitely in need of some outside tutoring. The school should recognize the fact he is struggling, and you should get some sort of correspondence from the school to aware you of the fact. If not, then you need to take the initiative to get with the school guidance counselor to make arrangements for him/her.

It sounds like you assume your child is only capable of getting F's I would be concerned with any child that got F's and D's. I would find out what the problem with their learning is and then get them tutored to bring their grades up. I certainly would not accuse them of cheating because they got a D

Neither.... I would ask where YOU were for those 9 weeks that it took your child to get all F's and a D. Parents need to monitor their child's education and be their advocate. You should have been communicating with the school and seeking answers to your child's problems.

There are many possible causes. Is it a learning disability, is he bored, skipping class, being bullied, needing your attention. I would ask him what's going on and then work with whoever it takes to help your child become successful!

first I would find out if he is having problems understanding what is being taught to him, then try to find out why he is getting bad grades, then take care of that problem.. then if he gets better tell him that then I am proud of his efforts.. You should never yell at a kid for getting bad grades unless you know for a fact that there is nothing wrong, and that he is doing it on purpose.. like cutting class, or not doing any homework, something like that

Straight F's and one D are nothing for anyone to be proud of. This kid needs to take his education more seriously and his or her parents should insist that those grades improve. This is definitly not a laughing matter. Something must be done about this IMMEDIATELY.

Assuming that, what? People who get straight As cheat? Instead of going down that path, you should help your child with homework, talk to his/her teacher, and try to get more involved in his/her schoolife-- something may be very wrong. He/she may have a learning disability or may even be picked on.
