What to do when you've been hacked??

Question

A couple of days ago my computer was hacked through my internet connection, so i did what most people would do i erased everything and tried to start over. but when i went to go and re-install windows i noticed i couldn't make the screen resolution smaller, then i noticed i couldn't add any hardware so obviously my computer is not being used now. my question is what can i do. i'm pretty good when it comes to computers but this time i couldn't do anything...if anyone has had the same problem and fixed it please let me know!!! a laptop only works for soo long.

it sounds more like you've re-installed windows but windows doesn't have the drivers built-in for your particular hardware so you've a rather crippled version of windows at the moment.

if you didn't get any driver cds with the machine then you will need to find out what sound card, graphics card, modem, etc is in your machine then visit the manufacturer's website for each and download the drivers for that bit of hardware.

you could *possibly* try doing:
start > run > dxdiag > ok

and see if it lists your hardware right, if not then it means removing the side of your machine and looking for clues stamped onto the hardware - which is a pain, and not really realistic for a laptop.

the way to tell if it's a driver problem is this:
right click on 'my computer'
choose 'properties'
choose 'hardware'
choose 'device manager'

if there are any yellow circles with exclamation marks then the hardware that icon is against does not have a working driver.

You didn't re-install your drivers after you re-installed your operating system. You should have a second CD disc that came with your computer that has the nessasary drivers to install.

you need to go a computer store and get an exellant virus program and ask them to install it for you and clean your computer out.
