Your green laser pointer has a laser diode. The power will increase if you increase the current, but so will the risk of burning out the diode. My summer students burned out 5 laser diodes this summer doing the sorts of tinkering you are thinking of. If the current is increased too much the power will start to fall off and permanent damage will be done to the laser diode. The reason is thermal runaway. If the heat sinking is improved, you can get away with more current. If you decide to experiment, you will probably be buying replacement laser diodes. Roithner LaserTech (Vienna) has a good selection.
