like giving a child a blanket or set of injections, in someones name instead of buying them an actual gift?

Hi!

I've been doing this for quite some time now.

I think it's a brilliant idea, the amount you want to spend varies from around £10 and goes up into the thousands of pounds, so it suits everybody's budget! The person in whose name the gift has been pledged gets a greeting card for the occasion telling them what their gift was and to whom it has gone.

Our kids these days have everything going with respect to toys etc., so it's nice to think that instead of people paying over the odds for the latest craze, some unfortunate children can benefit hugely in one way or another.

So if you're thinking of doing it - i'd say go for it!!

In an ideal world I think it is a great idea, but I can see that there would also be an element of disappointment as well, it's all well and good being charitable, but some people still like a present that is aimed at them, especially for a birthday or anniversary. I would get someone a charitable gift for Xmas, but not a birthday or anniversary. i would have a feeling that someone would thank you to your face and then moan behind your back.

I think its great, we don't buy Christmas pressies for any of our friends or family these days, they all have what they want or whinge when you spend half you life choosing something for them they don't like in the end up, now we just buy for our two great nephews and give a donation to Guide Dogs for the Blind and Macmillan nurses instead, they benefit more and do need gift aid.

I love getting things like that! I'm very much into animal and human rights though, I'd rather give to the needy than myself.

Okay if you honestly know they would appreciate it, I'd probably just give them money so they could choose the blanket and shot they wanted.

If the organization is legitimate then it is a good idea because your money is getting someone exactly what the person needs.
