Your question is deceptively simple and really quite deep. Here is my answer. It depends.

If you're just curious about why things are the way they are, asking "why?" is okay. We can philosophize all day long about why things are as they are.

But, if you're trying to solve a problem, asking why the problem exists doesn't really get you much closer to a solution. Asking why a problem exists often results in answers like "life is not fair" or "it's nobody's fault" or "they don't know any better, etc." that don't necessarily tell you what to do to fix it. We can go on endlessly asking "why" and never get any closer to a solution…it can be a way of avoiding solving a problem.

Asking who/what/when/where/how will more quickly move us toward solving the problem or improve the situation. For example: "WHAT can I and/or others do about this bad situation?" "WHAT are my options/alternatives that will solve the problem?" or "WHO can help me solve my problem?" or "WHERE can I go to get help to solve my problem?" or "HOW can my problem be solved?" "WHEN will this situation be over?"

Sometimes situations exist that cannot be corrected, for example, if someone we know has died and we are grieving. After all is said and done and we've tried everything we can, sometimes we cannot fix a problem or situation and have to move to ACCEPTANCE of it. The thing that makes acceptance possible for us is to know that we DON'T have to LIKE IT, BUT we DO have to ACCEPT it at some point.
.
Another example: Sometimes people we know may behave in intolerable ways. Once we accept that an intolerable situation is as it is, then we can ask ourselves something like, "Am I willing to continue in relationship with this person without their changing the problem behavior, or do I need to find a new relationship with someone who does not behave in this way?"
Finally, we can ask ourselves two YES-OR-NO questions: "Have I done everything I can to get the behavior change that I need to be happy?" If so, we then have to decide, "Am I willing to accept the situation as it is without change?" If the answer is NO, this leads back to the problem-solving questions: WHO? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? HOW?

God wants to ask questions and to educate ourselves. I mean before there were schools people had to find out how to do everything on their own and to ask WHY, so I think it's good to ask why. Nothing is better than educating yourself or wanting to know more about life or anything, for that matter.

The first step on the road to Wisdom is by asking why.Never stop asking why because that's how we learn about the world and our place in it.

It is always good to ask why. Any action that can't stand up to having it's motives questioned should not be done. But, for most things, "why not?" is a reasonable response:)

I ask why all the time! It's wonderful as far as I'm concerned. If you just believe everything you hear w/o question, you may be retaining useless knowledge that's not true.
