Because some Muslims are ultra sensitive about people criticizing their faith. Their reaction (murder of an African nun, firebombing of two churches) just proved the pope's point. Should the pope have said these things? Probably not.

But where was the moderate Muslim outrage over the destruction of the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan? Where was the outrage over the anti-Semitic political cartoons in the Middle East? Did Catholics firebomb Dan Brown's house over his book, "The Da Vinci Code?"

If Muslims want to be civil about this, shouldn't they just write letters to the editor in a local newspaper?

I agree on the basis that Muslims should defend their faith if they feel it's attacked but they are going about it the wrong way, obviously. The Christian faith has been attacked several times but you never see any Christian leader, pastor, or follower calling for the death of anyone (Pat Robertson is an exception, probably because he might be suffering from senile dementia).

The Pope quoted from an old text in which the author referred to Islamic intolerance and militancy as "evil". The Islamics believe that their intolerance and militancy are righteous and were offended that they were referred to as "evil". Catholic leaders within the past 100 years have denounced the Church's own intolerance and militancy (the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, not speaking against Hitler, etc., etc.) as being wrong actions that never should have been committed. Basically, the Pope said that other religions who espouse this type of action are also wrong and we all need a respectful dialog so we can learn to get along with each other. I guess the Islamics just don't want to get along...

Because he was taking the piss and inciting hatred and violence against muslims in a so called quotation. How many christians were killed tell me you liar! Not a single one. And how stupid can you be to say you didnt mean to say something bad when your clearly just reading something out bad and pinning the blame on the dead guy. If a muslim read out such a thing the whole world would probably hold one minute silences on the exact date and time the statement was read out! Now stop your rascist and fascist comments which are designed to tarnish the reputation of Muslims. You and the other haters need to get a life you jerks!

Think about it... I'm "catholic" and I did not support the Pope's statement. It was wrong to say, just like the reaction was wrong. It was stupid. I know Muslims, and they are very nice, peaceful people. I'm getting so sick of Americans (or at least many Americans, I'm American too) pointing fingers at all Muslims, it's extremists. ALL EXTREMES ARE BAD!!

Because Islam is a religion of intolerance and violence, worse than Christianity (and that is saying something). Which is why gw's 'war on terror' is a farce! The American douchebag political corrects could not stomach what would be required to wage a 'war on terror'. Instead we will let the bush Reich send our soldiers to the hell-hole Mid-east and let them be picked off one by dozens. Some day people will look back and ask how could we have been so stupid.

Because in this instance he is right. The Muslim Religion is well on it's way to being banned if they keep it up. And I can eventually see a world uprising against them and their religion. For those who practice muslim and say that this isn't representative of them, they need to track these people down and do away with them then.

It's called taking care of your own business. When you leave others to take care of these terrorists, you must also accept the consequences.
