The salt can wait, both fish are equal as far as which ones to start with, but only add one every few days while your tank develops the ability to handle the bio-load.

I have a tank full of platies I have never had problems with them and its really hard to kill them also if you get into problems with your water which has happened to me .

the thing with platies though you have to keep platies in the tank and watch what other fish you get because they will chase them and eat the fins if they are big ones. I made that mistake a couple of times.

If your fish store is like mine they have all the fish that can go together one side and the other side that you cant mix with platies or your fish place can help you.

Also, I dont get my fish at Walmart or any place like that. I have had their fish and kill off my tank from diseases and things like that always go to a fish store

Both are pretty hardy.... stay away from black mollies though. They are pretty inbred to keep that solid, black velvet color.
