yes i feel sorry for the baby's parents, but i must say in the owners defence that a dog can be well trained and be the softest dog, but it can turn nasty very quickly, sometimes it can be unknown as to why. I have had a Rottweiler cross dog as well as a staffordshire bull terrier cross bull mastiff and both these dogs were very gentle with my small children but at the end of the day these are dogs even if they are trained very well there is always a chance that they can turn.
No details have been released as to why this happened but i do feel very strongly that the parents of this child AND the owners of these dogs will be mortified. I did hear the police are seeking an order to have the dogs destroyed, but i feel this is a very sad tragedy and unless the police release a statement saying the owners were at fault or something along those lines, then i do not blame anyone for what happened. I feel sorry for all involved in this and i hope the baby's parents stay strong.

People will never learn, the owners of the two dogs have and I'll bet my last dollar they will not let any dog near future children they may have. You have to be very careful with dogs even the most docile dog can do enough to cause serious harm to a child
if it feels the child has taken affection from the dog. This is not the first time it has happened, everyone who gets a dog suddenly becomes experts and knows their dog would never do such a thing. I am afraid history says their wrong. But some stupid morons will continue the practise of dog verse child in the family home and when their child gets hurt look totally astonished. Laws need to be made to stop the practice and parents disobeying should be done for manslaughter if another child is killed as a result of owning a dog. Before you say silly B?????d, think of that poor baby and the other children attacked in the same manner.

This was a very sad situation and my heart goes out to the family.....however the toddler should not have been left alone with the dogs and even if there was somebody in the room with them the dogs should have been kept with good distance or muzzled. We have a Jack Russell, he is a soppy dog and although we love him to bit's we would never leave him alone with a child because any dog can turn and do alot of damage.
Also....for Firefly, u cant judge the parents as irresponsible for bringing up a baby in a pub, I have 4 friends who were bought up in pubs and they've turned out just fine. This has nothing to do with the attack, it could have happened no matter where they lived.

first of all that babies parents were looking after the dogs who are well known as guard dogs i have a rotty who i thought was an excellent dog but today it bit my 2 yr old on the face luckily he needed no stiches i wanted to personally kill my dog who had been with us before my son was born and has never behaved like this before i had him destroyed so he did not pose a risk to others it was sad but the risk is not worth it i would rather have any child safe than the dog i am sorry but the parents should have known better my dog was a pet and turned not a guard dog

No dog should be free to attack any innocent human being. Rottweilers are known to be a dangerous breed and should be restrained at all times except when they are in enclosed premises with only their owners about. Yes, I am always angry when this kind of thing happens. There is no excuse for it.

It did make me angry, then I read the story in the news, the baby's parent's were looking after the pub for friend's, who were on holiday, but the dog's should have been muzzled though. Both dog's have now been destroyed. which is no compensation to the family who lost there baby girl.

How can people justify having these kinds of, what are now dubbed "dangerous breeds" as pets as most are just status symbols and not pets that can be adored.
It's about time they were culled and the owners compensated and the breeds wiped out so we don't have to hear yet another story like this..... they are becoming far too frequent.

Yes it made me sad.
But i have a lovely pure bred German Shepherd, He is quite a big dog, but he is the most gentle thing, Big dogs need training and affection. 1 rotty ( as well call them in s.a) is more then enough , there is no need for two!!!
I agree it is not the dogs fault it is the owners for not teaching it better. Dogs that attack humans and other animals are usually inncoent dogs that have been beaten and not looked after well enough
EDIT : How the hell did i get thumbs down? Is it because i have a german shephard or because i am telling you FACTUAL information on why most dogs do attack people

They are classed as a dangerous breed, but the law states they must be muzzled when outside, not in the home.
As for no bad dogs........
All dogs can turn no matter what the breed, and half crack owners should remember that when they have children around!

They are guard dogs. the parents of the baby should have muzzled the dogs. Pubs nowadays need some protection as they are always being broken into. It was the dogs job to attack anyone who not meant to be in the living quarters.
Its like a poilce dog attacking a crimal, its their job
